Friday

On a serious note, those of you that live in the south may have seen a news item on Wednesday about Keiton Knight. an 8 year old boy who died on 1st march from leukaemia after a 4 year fight. Keiton was waiting for a bone marrow transplant, but being of Afro-Caribbean descent, donors are hard to find, and mixed races are greatly under-represented on the registers of bone marrow donors. Sadly he was unsuccessful, although his story raised awareness and many new mixed race donors were found through his story. Keiton is featured on like2like, a web site set up by a fellow transplant patient, Sarah, who is also of mixed race, but was fortunate in finding a suitable donor and is now in remission from acute myloid leukaemia. For those that are interested, here is a link to The Afro-Caribbean Leukaemia Trust which promotes awareness of the problems that mixed race patients have in finding donors and has more information about Keiton. And if anyone (whether mixed race or not) would like to become a donor, details can be found from The Anthony Nolan Trust website.

My apologies to those who were briefly barred from the blog during the week! As part of my campaign against spammers, I loaded a number of IP addresses into the site blacklist. However I was using a different method of extracting them (taking them directly from the blog database) and I took one or two legitimate IP addresses! I will be repeating the exercise again (there are currently 250 spam comments that have been caught by the filter waiting to be ‘dealt with’) so should it happen again, please e-mail me and let me know (you had better note that now because if you are locked out of the site, you won’t see the e mail address!)

Other than that, nothing else to report healthwise. My next check up is on Thursday, and that will be six weeks after the DLI! However on the food front, I have re-discovered something even better than bacon sandwiches… Bacon & Mushroom sandwiches! Bring on the Calories!

Onwards and Upwards!

Well have you tried them toasted?

The best method for us is to use the heatproof bags and put them in the Dualit with a toasting cage.

Best thoughts and prayers for Thursday I will put my lucky socks on if Gillian does the same 🙂

Now THAT is a good idea! (The heatproof bag, that is, although the lucky socks sound pretty good too!)

You nearly had me worried for a bit then,”Better Than a Bacon Sarnie”??? is there such a thing?? although i would agree the inclusion of a few juicy mushrooms makes all the difference. Them heat proff bags are great too they make a mean cheesy toastie without all the overspill mess sometimes you get in a standard grill.

Hey Richard, ever tried putting the lucky socks in the Heatproof Bag, ideal on a cold morning!!

I do completely agree Peter with the lack of Mixed Race and others for that matter in relation to being a Bone Marrow Donor. It is quite a frightning situation really. I know they seem to have more problems in obtaining donors than usual for probably a whole lot of reasons too. It is always sad to see any life lost to this nasty evil let alone a small child and it makes it harder too when with maybe more incouragement, funding, whatever it takes, more doners could be found to stop this from happening.

    See Ya!!

Well, I’ll have to try adding mushrooms to our bacon sandwiches – something I’d never thought of doing! Maybe you should start your own recipe book!

We’ll be saying our prayers for you too for Thursday. Hope you had a good weekend.

    Lots of love,
    Liz

If you are not toasting you can also try an egg. For those who are health geeks fry a Columbus egg high in Omega 3 (two types free range and ‘standard’ [battery??] Tescos, Co-op and Waitrose the free range are in the green box, well they would be wouldn’t they) If not hard fried you may have the pleasure of the yolk running down your chin.

To get the flavour of mushroom, Chestnut or specialist is best, slice and heat in water in the microwave. Certainly not quite as good as fried but helps the cholesterol intake even when using Olive Oil. Whoops thinking of Popeye there.

Crossed stuff and Pimm’s now the Sun is out for Thursday.

    Hi Handsome

I can agree with you on the bacon and mushroom butties. I usually toast the bread, put a gentle layer of mustard on, then pile on the bacon and mushrooms (having been pan fried in a little olive oil and garlic) and just before you pop it under the grill, add some grate cheese – better than an orgasm!!

Looking forward to catching up with you on Monday and i’ve now completed all the changes for the modules, so you can concentrate on more important things.

    lol

Thanks for mentioning Keiton Knight Peter. He was such a vital little boy, you would have never known he was ill. Mark & I attended his funeral last week & it was of course very sad but we also shared lots of happy memories & we all released balloons with messages to him on Brighton Beach!

Sending you healing vibes as always…
I’m very well at the moment ;o)
