Thursday… good news

Unbelievably, I have been back a week, but it has been fairly eventful one. After the weekend of BBQs, I was back at work for a day, and then up to London for another round of ECP. All getting routine now and no problems. I got home on Wednesday in time to go out for a few leaving drinks with some people from the office. I did stay out rather later than I anticipated, but it was a good evening.

This morning I was off to London again for my delayed haematology appointment. It should have been two weeks ago. I saw Dr Kazmi who was pleased with the way things are going. My weight is up by another pound at 10st 3lbs, steady progress! No lumps found, and we discussed having a PET scan (it is 12 months since the last!!) sometime in September. And luckily I had bloods checked on Tuesday, so I didn’t need to have them taken again today – just as well after last night! They are much the same as before – kidney function is about the same with creatinine levels much the same as last time. Liver seems OK too!

I also asked a couple of general questions – about my overall progress, given that it is nine years since I was first diagnosed and that Mantle Cell Lymphoma is a particularly ‘difficult’ disease. The answer though was as I expected – some patients do better than others – and there may be lots of factors involved – although he did say that he was worried 18 months ago (he wasn’t the only one!).

So perhaps it is better not to question why – but just be grateful that so far things are going well. πŸ™‚

May that continue – Onwards and Upwards!

    Good news indeed πŸ™‚

Just off to do a bit more to stop my liquid gold tank leaking πŸ™

Richard – wondered where you had gone! Bad nrews on the liquid gold tank – definitely don’t want a leaking tap there!

If only it were the tap or valve.

Just topped up with 1650 litres and one of the welded joints has started to leak. Being 11 years old there is no warranty so a replacement tank in another location is called for with much digging (360 degree excavator, thank goodness) and a very helpful ready-mix driver. I had forgotten just how heavy read-mix is and intended to tamp off and lay the concrete on my own. At 8 am for the delivery it was too early to call for help so the driver saved the day. It was so strong that it had gone off within a couple of hours so that you could walk on it without scuffing the surface.

Conduit laid, tank ordered so now just hoping that the seeping doesn’t become a flow in the next few days.

In the great scheme of things it isn’t important but it has been one of those weeks, washing machine control unit failed, had to buy a new TV so ours could go to Vivienne’s new house in Nottingham for the next year (final unless she does Phd or MA or Legal conversion ) the water supply to the fridge decided to spring a leak and we have had three wasps nest in the roof space.

BUT I have made good use of my home made contraption to blow powder into nests. My neighbour had two so it has been useful this week.

Small things but my own πŸ™‚

Hope the new tank will be plastic – longer lifetime. Annoying the old one should start dripping – should have lasted longer than that (trouble is you get condensatioon on the inside, and if the galvanizing isn’t good at the seam…

Maynbe not important in the really grand scheme – but small problems are big to the person experiencing them! (Sounds like confucious – and I haven’t had a Pimms all day…)

Onwards and upwards Peter! I’m off to the Lakes with Dave Hill this weekend and we will toast your continuing progress at the top of somewhere. We are actually planning wild camping on Saturday night but that depends on the weather.

    Stephen.

Stephen, Great to hear from you – hope you don’t get washed out! BW to David!

Confucius: He say ” Drink Pimm’s all day and forget your troubles”

A real one – “It does not matter how slowly you go, so long as you do not stop”

PS what is galvanizing? Girding one’s limbs? πŸ™‚

  8. Peter on 03 Aug 2008 at 10:16 pm #

Indeed – galvanizing you to get a new tank where the galvanising on the old one had failed! πŸ™‚ (Maybe I had had a Pimms and not noticed!)

Confucius he say: “It does not matter how you grow old as long as you don’t stop.”

The replacement tank (second hand 2500 litres) is plastic the old one was made to measure in mild steel. Not to be recommended now as no guarantee and only recommended for rough ground and transport.

Sorry cannot comment on tanks, Pimms, or Confucious – my experience in life hasn’t taken me that far, chaps! Delighted at the progressess and that the ECP seems to be doing its stuff, O&U definitely working all round. L’n’Hs

Just got back from sunny Austria – so as they say there

Das Leben gehΓΆrt den Lebenden an, und wer lebt, muss auf Wechsel gefasst sein.

(Life belongs to the living, and those who live must be prepared for change)!

Austrian wine surprisingly good – so a toast to your good health πŸ˜€

What fun! Wrong time of the year for Gluvein (Sp) – otherwise you could have compared and contrasted with Winter Pimms!

    And thank you!

Howdy all – been rushing around last few days which included celebrating 57th birthday on Tuesday, Christine away all week (hugging trees and learning macrobiotic recipes) so obviously got plastered Tuesday evening.

Glad all OK Peter – I too got an ‘eliptical’ answer from Oncologist when I asked what I felt was a perfectly sensible question – I too learnt at that point not to bother asking those kind of questions!!

When’s next ECP and I’ll try and have a trip to the smoke to meet up?
