Sunday… up, up and away

I heard yesterday that I have got a flight for my planned trip away – so on Tuesday evening I shall be departing for… The Falkland Islands. Some of you will know that I have been there before – the last time in 2000 for 12 months. This trip is only for 6 days, but it will be long enough to see how the projects I was involved with then have come to fruition, and to catch up with some of the people I know there. This is all courtesy of a friend of mine who is currently working down there, and I am very grateful.

So I am digging out my cold weather clothing, boots and so on, and packing a rucsac with warm weather stuff in case the flight is held up at Ascension Island (as is occasionally the case in the South Atlantic Winter) because of bad weather.

Internet access will be negligible so I don’t expect to be posting to the blog while I am away, but the camera will be packed and I’ll post some photos when I return.

Back at the ranch I have been mostly home alone – the girls coming and going while I provide (limited!) cooking and domestic services! Felicity comes back today for a couple of days before disappearing to mange hospitality at “The Open” so we are having a family get together this evening – roast dinner etc – which I will be cooking. The time on my own has allowed me to get on with coursework 3 – the last one for this module. The work is almost complete – I just need to type it up.

But now it’s off to sort out the stuff to pack! I’ll try and post something before I go – otherwise it’ll be about 10 days!

Tuesday… wet, wet, wet!

So was that the summer? Fortunately I managed to get into the garden on Saturday and scalp the lawn – after a morning spent chasing round rescuing Rachael’s car from where she had abandoned it the night before with a flat tyre (and flat spare). Close examination showed that it had (at some time) had a close encounter of the kerb kind, so she needed a new rim – duly obtained from the local car breakers – she did suggest opening an account there! Anyway, two new tyres later and she is now mobile again.

Felicity came home on Sunday, from Henley, just long enough to do her washing and depart for Hampton Court on Monday morning. I am hoping to go off for a few days next week – but as the arrangements are not yet in place – I will say no more for now!

Coursework 3 beckons, so I had better sign off – but as always…

Thursday… more ECP

I have just arrived home from another two sessions of ECP – all uneventful, apart from the fact that I got the timings right on an M&S curry, which was a distinct improvement on last time.

The highlight of the sessions though was a visit by Simon (ex BT) with all his news – the most important being a clear scan! Really good news Simon! The second bit was a chat about plans after his decision to leave BT. Sadly we weren’t able to go for a beer (or two) but our chat certainly made the two hours or so pass very quickly. Great to see you Simon!

Other than that, not a lot to report at the moment. The sun is shining, and I feel I ought to cut the lawn, but as it is still only a few hours from the second ECP session (and I am wearing sunglasses) it probably isn’t a good idea going out into the bright light – maybe tomorrow!

Onwards and Upwards!
