Sunday… Remembrance

It is a typical cold November day, and just back from the moving service at our local church. This is a service that is usually very well attended (probably more than any other) and today was no exception, with an Honour Guard for a local girl killed in Basra 2 years ago.

The last two weeks have been busy, with lots of meetings and travelling, and the odd hospital visit where minor treatment for the effects of GvHd have continued. My next ECP is scheduled for December, but my next haematology check up isn’t until the New Year! The meetings for work have gone well, and I have been doing one or two other bits and pieces, including the installation of a home/small office network, which has been interesting and challenging!

The first open fires of the season have been lit, and Winter Pimms is calling. However we seem to have missed out on bonfire night – all though the sky was illuminated from local displays, so the obligatory “Ooohs” and “Ahhhs” were made!

The recent heavy rain has brought most of the leaves off the trees, although they are still too wet to sweep up – maybe we will get some dry weather soon! However the wet weather did highlight the fact that the tyres on my car were pretty much worn out, so a quick trip to the garage, followed by a considerable lightening of the wallet soon fixed that!

So all in all, I am continuing Onwards and Upwards, but following on from the opening paragraph, for those that aren’t… “We will remember them”

Keep us up to speed on the next ECP, does having a drink or three matter?

Try the mower on the leaves, I just set ours to be not low enough to hit the gravel but low enough to suck them up, then off to the compost heap, another trick have a tarp or something to dump from the mower, then lift all up to the top of the heap. All ok so far:)

Just need more heaps, we have about 5 of those plastic ‘daleks’ and I have just made another three (one to come) with palets. All free courtesy of the local council recycling programme and next door’s gardener/handyman who seems adept at ‘finding’ things.

Just made the Winter Pimm’s next door with the addition of an additional bottle of brandy (cooking from the local Coop) and I have just been told that I am expected to cook before the fireworks. Not only that I have also been volunteered to cook and sell the chestnuts for the local amdram production of Christmas Carol for three nights and a matinee. Although in costume I will have to dig out my Kevlar gloves 🙂

Off soon to sample the festive drinks…………

hopefully you will not be responsible for the lighting of the fireworks after consuming the laced winter pimms!

hope you managed to sell loads of chestnuts

Chestnut sales are not until the production nearer Christmas, I have to have a fitting for my costume first………….what did Victorian chestnut sellers wear?

I also need to research the vernacular to find some suitable expressions for a street trader of the time. Time to dig out Fowler and the Dictionary of Swearing…………what do I look up though?

Winter Pimm’s was good and went all too quickly, bonfire lasted well, the fireworks were adequate and the BBQ food all went so must have been OK.

Off to research naughty Victorian words that will not cause offence to the modern ear……………..we’ll see.

surely you don’t need to swear at people to make them buy your wares, or is this in case they walk by without buying anything??!!

a costume! you really need to get on FB so that we can see the results Richard, might be even better than the fireman’s outfit 😉

11-11-11 today i hope everyone has a chance to pause at 11 o’clock.

Up until 1939 the ‘world’ stopped today and then it was moved to a Sunday.
