Sunday… more socialising!

PartyFriday was quite quiet, but we went out as a family to a local restaurant to celebrate Rachael’s birthday. Somewhere we haven’t been before. but if anyone is interested, try The Hurdles – it was very good! The younger members of the group went into Southampton afterwards while we went home!

Saturday was quiet, but in the evening friends Mark and Sue, Caroline and Gabor came round for a relaxed supper. (Gabor is the driving force behind The Electrical Language Podcast which you can also download via I-tunes. Give iit a listen!) But I digress, last night we we had an Italian theme, lots of antipasta – which I mention only because some of it was quite spicy but caused me no problems at all. I have to say we had a smashing time! (Gabor – it was an Italian theme, not a Greek one!) 🙂

Onwards and Upwards!

So what’s Italian for Plat du Jour?

I only speak very broken Italian – so it would be broken plate de jour…!

Plato de dayo ……said very loudly with lots of gestures 🙂

Or piatto del giorno which doesn’t sound much more convincing that the pigeon version.

If we are in the large boot it should be grappa. I remember (well I have been told I remember) going to my sister-in-law’s 21st in a London Italian restaurant which was part owned by her uncle (Paddy…..don’t ask) and at the end of a very long meal round a large family table seating about 20 out came the grappa. In large olive oil bottles imported amongst the timber that came from Italy.
Interestingly it was the lorry tractors that were being smuggled in not the timber although the grappa was a nice touch……one of the reasons not to ask.
One of the few times when I woke up still very drunk.
    What’s it like being drunk……………………..

Nice story Richard – especially the smuggling – smuggling in open view, a nice touch!

To explain, we were sitting in the conservatory, and Gabor cut something – which broke a piece out of the plate. As it came from France, it is a perfect excuse to go there again and get a replacement!
