Thursday 10th October … just one more thing!

Just as I thought I was starting to feel better, I noticed a rash on my leg, which the doctors think might be an outbreak of shingles! That would explain why today is a bit of a lethargic day! Still, I’m in the right place as I’m having a large dose of IV acyclovir (which I normally take prophylacticly as a tablet) over 5 days to knock it on the head!

In other news, my WBC is down to 8, which is good, not so good is that my platelets and neutrophils are down too – so a platelet transfusion later (I really am overdrawn at the blood bank!) and maybe GCSF to boost the neutrophils.

I stopped the Ibrutinib yesterday and start Lanlidomide tomorrow. As I mentioned in an earlier post, this is a maintenance therapy to keep everything controlled without large doses of cytarabine.

I went for a little walk yesterday, including a flight of stairs. I managed OK, but felt a bit wiped out afterwards – it’s frightening how quickly loss of fitness and muscle tone starts.

I expect to be in hospital for a while yet, but provided the Lanlidomide lives up to its promise, it is Oneards and Upwards! 🙂

Oh no! Shingles sounds pretty uncomfortable. Well done on going for a walk though. I agree, I lose fitness way quicker than gain it but can gain weight quicker than losing it. Bodies are contrary things!

Luckily it was caught early (within 24 hours) and so IV acyclovir was started quickly. The rash does seem to be subsiding!

Yes, getting fitness back is going to be a challenge.

Caught up at last! Oh dear, you have been through such a lot! Anyway, I hope that now being 2 days on, you have got a bit more strength back.

Mum ended up in A&E yesterday after a fall. Eight hours and 3 stitches later, she is now back home. I was with her yesterday and we are just about to drive over again to be with her overnight. Hopefully, she’ll feel a bit more confident tomorrow.

Many good wishes for your journey onwards and upwards with some decent food along the way!

    Lots of love xxx

Hello Peter how are things with you? I have been reading your blog and I must admit that you have been coping remarkably well. I think that you deserve a ? medal. I am glad that you received my card- sending you a hug – and I feel I need to send you another one – this time it’s a large one!! I have just been to see the Downton Abbey film which was very enjoyable and great fun. Otherwise not a lot to report. Looking forward to seeing my son Sam in London in two weeks time. We hope to see the musical Mama Mia, which I am looking forward to. Sam completed his training as a patent attorney. He has just bought another terraced house in Liverpool which is being renovated and then will be let to students. I have my Pilates class early tomorrow morning so I will try to get some sleep now. Just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you, Lots of love Elizabeth XX
