When I was initially diagnosed with bowel cancer in January, various people asked what they could do and raising money for Cancer Research seemed to be the most obvious cause to support.

In May, a group of friends took part in the Relay for Life in Huddersfield, raising £1,000 in the process, and last Sunday a number of colleagues and students from the Programme of Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy donned their trainers and ran round York Racecourse as part of this year’s Race for Life, whilst Gala, Vicky and Jane P ran the RfL at Leeds Road, Huddersfield.

So, very many thanks to you all – what a fine body of men and women you are!
A busy weekend. On Saturday, we took part in Cancer Research’s “Relay for Life” event. This was a 24-hour (or in our case a 12-hour) team event, in which members of our team managed to keep walking continuously for 12 hours in order to raise money for Cancer Research (a charity which is rather close to my heart at the moment, as you can well imagine).
The weather forecast for Saturday was pretty grim, but in the event we fared quite well, with only two rain showers during the day (apologies to those of you who were unfortunate enough to be walking at those times!). The day started with all the cancer survivors/sufferers walking the first lap, after which the team members took over, although I did join various folks at various times during the day for another lap of the track.
So, very many thanks to everyone who took part. It looks as though we will have raised over £700, which is a tremendous effort.
Today I went for my PET scan at Seacroft. It passed off without incident, although the novelty of keeping my arms raised above my head during the scan began to wear a little thin after 30 minutes!
I was phoned during the drive home by the liver nurse specialist, and now have an appointment with the surgeon for my results: this Friday at 11am – which gives me three days in which to spring-clean the house again!
